The clock can make it worse
You wake, look at the time, calculate how many hours remain, and begin negotiating with sleep. If I fall asleep now, I can still get four hours. Ten minutes later you calculate again. The night becomes a countdown.
If possible, turn the clock away. You do not need minute-by-minute performance data while trying to rest.
Do less
Night waking invites problem-solving: should I check my phone, take something, answer an email, search why this is happening? Most of those actions increase stimulation.
Keep the environment boring and dim. Let your body remain in night mode even if your mind has temporarily woken up.
Give the mind a neutral task
If thoughts are racing, choose something gently repetitive. Count breaths without trying to control them. Imagine walking through a familiar place. Listen to a quiet story or soundscape at low volume. Name categories slowly: cities, plants, foods.
The task should be interesting enough to occupy attention but not interesting enough to become an event.
Get out of bed if frustration takes over
If you have been awake long enough that the bed feels like a place of tension, consider getting up briefly. Sit somewhere dim and do something quiet until sleepiness returns.
The exact timing matters less than the principle: do not spend a long stretch teaching your brain that bed is where you worry about sleeping.
Protect tomorrow from tonight
A rough night can tempt you to cancel everything, over-caffeinate, or panic about the next night. Make reasonable adjustments, but avoid turning one wake-up into a story about permanent insomnia.
Sleep varies. Support the next night with ordinary rhythms — daylight, movement, a consistent wind-down — and let the system recalibrate.
A little more space can change what becomes possible next.
There is no perfect way to practice this. Start with the version that fits the life you are actually living, and return when you need to.

Diez minutos después vuelves a calcular.
Haz menos
